If your house is anything like mine, Star Wars is basically a lifestyle. Between movie marathons and lightsaber battles in the living room, we’re always looking for a fun craft to channel that galaxy-far-far-away energy. This Yoda paper plate craft is seriously one of the easiest and cutest projects we’ve done. It’s low-mess, budget-friendly, and little hands absolutely love it. May the craft be with you! 🌟

What Is This Craft, Exactly?

This is a simple DIY paper plate craft that transforms ordinary paper plates into the face of everyone’s favorite Jedi master — Yoda! You use basic craft supplies like construction paper, markers, glue, scissors, and a free printable template to put it all together. The result is an adorable Yoda face that kids will be super proud of.

You can make a classic Yoda or a Baby Yoda (Grogu) version — both are totally doable with this method. It’s great for Star Wars-themed birthday parties, May the Fourth celebrations, or honestly just a random Tuesday when you need something fun to do. You know how it is.

Why You’ll Love This Idea 💚

First of all, this project is incredibly affordable. Paper plates, construction paper, and a few markers — that’s basically it. No specialty supplies, no craft store runs with a toddler in tow (we’ve all been there). The free printable template does a lot of the heavy lifting, so you’re not trying to freehand Yoda’s iconic ears from scratch. Trust me, that’s a battle you don’t want to fight.

Second, this craft moves quickly! Kids have short attention spans — and let’s be honest, so do we sometimes. This project doesn’t drag on forever. From start to finish, you can wrap it up in about 30–45 minutes, which is the sweet spot for keeping everyone engaged and happy. It’s the kind of kids’ craft activity that actually gets finished. Win! 🎉

Why This Project Is Great for Kids 🧒

This paper plate Yoda craft is perfect for preschoolers and elementary-aged kids. It builds fine motor skills through cutting, gluing, and drawing. Plus, following step-by-step instructions helps with focus and sequencing — skills they’re building every day, just with way more fun involved here.

It’s also a great Star Wars kids craft for group settings. Whether you’re hosting a classroom party, a birthday bash, or an afternoon playdate, this one scales beautifully. Set out the supplies, let the kids go at it, and watch the creativity fly. Every Yoda will look a little different, and that’s part of the charm. 🛸

How to Make the Yoda Paper Plate Craft 🎨

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Paint both paper plates green and set them aside to dry completely. This is a great time to prep your construction paper cutouts!
  2. Cut one of the green painted plates in half. These halves will become Yoda’s big, iconic ears.
  3. Print the template and trace each shape onto the matching color of construction paper. Use pink for the inner ear details. For the eyes, cut large circles from black paper and smaller circles from white paper — two of each.
  4. Glue the pink construction paper cutouts onto the flat side of each ear (the paper plate halves).
  5. Assemble the eyes by gluing the small white circles onto the larger black circles. Set them aside.
  6. Attach the ears to the back of the full paper plate using glue. Position them so they peek out on both sides — like a true Jedi.
  7. Glue the assembled eyes onto the front of the paper plate face.
  8. Use a green marker to draw Yoda’s signature forehead wrinkle lines. This is what really makes him look wise beyond his 900 years. 😄
  9. Finally, draw a small nose and a little smile with your black marker. Step back and admire your masterpiece!

Fun Variations to Try

The basic craft is a great starting point. Here are some ways to mix it up:

  • Baby Yoda / Grogu version: Make the ears rounder and bigger, and add the little green hood shape. Grogu is a fan-favorite and so stinking cute as a paper plate character.
  • Mini version: Use small dessert-sized paper plates for a more compact craft — great for lunchboxes or mini party decor.
  • Painted background: Add a galaxy-inspired background behind Yoda using dark blue or black paper splattered with white paint dots for stars. So cool for display!
  • Stick puppet: Glue a popsicle stick to the back and you’ve got a paper plate puppet. Kids can act out their own Star Wars scenes — cue the dramatic music.
  • Party decor: Make a whole crew of Yodas and hang them as a garland for a Star Wars party. Cute, cheap, and 100% handmade — parents will love it.

Common Questions About This Craft

What age is this craft for?

This craft works best for kids ages 4 and up. Younger kids can still participate with a little adult help on the cutting. Older kids can take on more of the steps independently, which is always a win.

Do I need paint?

If you want to skip the paint drying time, you can use green plates or green construction paper to cover the plate instead. Both methods work great!

Can I use this as a Baby Yoda craft?

Yes! Grogu (Baby Yoda) fans rejoice. Adjust the ears to be slightly rounder and bigger and skip the forehead wrinkle lines. You can also add a little brown robe shape out of construction paper to complete the look. 💚
