Han Solo Paper Plate Craft: Free Printable Template
Make a fun Han Solo Paper Plate Craft with a free printable template! Easy Star Wars kids craft perfect for May the 4th, birthday parties & paper craft days.

I have a feeling your little Star Wars fan is going to absolutely flip for this one. Whether you’re planning a May the Fourth party, a galactic birthday bash, or just need a fun afternoon activity, this craft delivers big on cute without demanding much from your time or budget. And the free printable template? Total game changer. 🙌

What Is This Craft? 🎨
This is a simple, adorable paper plate character craft that transforms a plain paper plate into the face of the galaxy’s most lovable smuggler — Han Solo! Using peach paint, black and brown construction paper, markers, and a free printable template, kids cut and assemble all the pieces to build Han’s iconic face, complete with his dark brown hair and a classic smirk.
It’s a fantastic craft for Star Wars Day on May 4th, classroom activities, themed birthday parties, or just a random rainy Tuesday when you need something to keep the kids busy. You know how those days go. Thankfully, this craft has your back.

Why You’ll Love This Idea ❤️
First off, it’s incredibly budget-friendly. Paper plates, a little paint, some construction paper, and markers — that’s basically it. Most of these supplies are probably already hanging out in your craft drawer right now. On top of that, the free printable template makes this totally doable even if your drawing skills top out at stick figures. No judgment here whatsoever.
Second, it comes together fast. Once the paint dries, the whole thing takes about 20 minutes to assemble. That means you can actually finish a craft project before someone needs a snack, a hug, or a referee. The end result looks genuinely impressive on a wall or fridge, and your kids will feel like total crafting champions. 🏆

Why This Project Is Great for Kids 👦👧
This craft is a wonderful fit for a wide range of ages. Younger kids, around 3 to 5, can handle painting and gluing with a little help from you. Older kids, 6 and up, can take on tracing and cutting the template pieces mostly on their own. Either way, everyone gets to be part of the fun, which is honestly the best kind of activity.
Additionally, this Star Wars paper craft supports fine motor skill development in a way that feels exciting rather than like practice. Cutting, gluing, and drawing all build those small muscle skills kids need. After the craft is done, kids love using Han Solo as a prop for imaginative play and galaxy-saving adventures around the living room. It’s a simple kids’ activity with a long play life. 🚀

How to Make the Han Solo Paper Plate Craft 🚀
Ready to jump in? Here are the step-by-step instructions to make your very own Han Solo paper plate character:
- Paint the paper plate peach and set it aside to dry fully. While you wait, this is a great time to print and prep the template pieces.
- Once dry, trace the face shape template onto the plate and cut it out. Save the leftover painted scraps — you’ll use those for the ears! If you don’t have enough scraps, simply paint a small section of another plate and cut the ear circles from that.
- Trace the eye template onto black construction paper and cut out the shapes. Then trace the hair template onto brown construction paper and cut that out as well.
- Attach the hair by sliding the paper plate face into the open slit cut into the middle of the hair piece. Glue the hair to both the front and back of the plate so everything stays put.
- Glue the eyes onto the face, using your template as a placement guide.
- Glue one ear circle to each side of the plate.
- Draw a smile with the black marker. Finally, add a small highlight dot to each eye with the white marker for that bright, lively look. Han is ready for the Kessel Run! 🎉

Fun Variations to Try 💡

- Add a blaster — cut a small blaster shape from gray or black construction paper and glue it beside the plate for extra flair.
- Use foam plates for extra durability, especially if younger kids will be using the finished craft for play.

- Try mini versions on small snack-size plates for a cute mobile or gift tag.

Common Questions About This Craft ❓
What age is this craft best for?
This craft works really well for kids ages 3 and up. Toddlers will need help with cutting and tracing, but they can absolutely join in on painting and sticking pieces together. Kids ages 6 and older can handle most steps independently. It’s also great for mixed-age groups, like siblings crafting together at the kitchen table.
Do I need the printable template to make this?
Not at all! You can definitely freehand the shapes if you’re feeling crafty. However, the free template is specifically sized to fit a standard paper plate, which makes everything line up perfectly. It also saves a lot of time, especially when you’re making multiples for a party or class.
What paint works best on paper plates?
Acrylic craft paint works great and dries quickly. Tempera paint is also a solid choice, particularly for younger kids since it’s much easier to wash off skin and clothes. Steer clear of watercolor for this step, as it tends to warp and buckle the plate rather than laying flat.
How long does this craft take, start to finish?
Plan for about 40 to 45 minutes total. Active crafting takes around 20 to 25 minutes, and the rest is drying time for the paint. To speed things up, use a hair dryer on a low setting. You’ve got a galaxy to protect — no time to wait around!
Is this a good Star Wars birthday party craft?
It’s one of the best options out there! Set up a craft table with pre-painted plates and all the supplies ready to go. Guests can assemble their own character and take it home as a party favor. To save even more time at the party, pre-paint all the plates the night before.
