Why You’ll Love This Idea ❤️

To start, this craft is seriously low-cost. A paper plate, some paint, construction paper scraps, and a marker are basically all you need. Chances are, most of that is already in your craft stash right now. On top of that, the free printable template makes cutting out all the helmet details totally stress-free, even if your hands-on crafting time is limited. No tracing from scratch, no guessing at proportions — just print, cut, and glue.

Plus, the finished craft just looks so stinking cool. 😍 Boba Fett’s helmet is iconic, and this paper plate version nails the look in the most kid-friendly way possible. Your little one will want to show it off to literally everyone — the neighbors, grandparents, the mailman. Fair warning: you might end up making a few of these.

Simple Star Wars Craft to make Boba Fett

Why This Project Is Great for Kids 👦👧

This craft works beautifully across a range of ages. Younger kids around 3 to 5 can join in on the painting and gluing while you handle the cutting. Older kids, 6 and up, can manage most of the steps on their own, which gives them such a great sense of accomplishment. Either way, everyone gets in on the action, and that matters.

Moreover, this Star Wars paper craft quietly builds fine motor skills through cutting, gluing, and tracing — all while kids think they’re just having fun. After they finish, the paper plate helmet becomes instant inspiration for imaginative play. Suddenly your living room is Tatooine and everyone needs a mission. It’s a simple kids’ activity that keeps on giving long after craft time is over. 🚀

How to Make the Boba Fett Paper Plate Craft 🛡️

Follow these simple steps and you’ll have a bounty hunter helmet ready to display in no time!

  1. Paint the paper plate green and set it aside to dry completely. While the plate dries, go ahead and print out your free template so everything is ready to go.
  2. Once dry, trace the helmet shape template onto the plate and cut it out. This gives you that great rounded helmet silhouette.
  3. Next, trace all the remaining template pieces onto the correct construction paper colors — red pieces on red paper, black pieces on black paper, and green strips on green paper. Then cut them all out.
  4. Layer and attach the red and black template pieces together first using glue. This builds up the detail on the front of the helmet visor area.
  5. Glue the assembled red and black visor piece onto the front of the green paper plate.
  6. Finally, glue one green construction paper strip to each side of the paper plate to complete the earcap details on Boba’s helmet. Use your marker to add any final details or outlines. Stand back and admire your work — this is seriously impressive! 🎉

Fun Variations to Try 💡

Want to get even more creative with this? Here are some ideas to switch things up:

  • Build out the whole Mandalorian crew — use the same paper plate technique to make Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) or Jango Fett alongside Boba for a full bounty hunter display.
  • Make a wearable helmet — use a large paper plate and cut out eye holes so kids can actually wear their Boba Fett helmet for playtime or Halloween. Epic.
  • Add a jetpack — cut a jetpack shape from cardboard or cardstock, paint it to match, and attach it to the back of the plate for a full costume prop look.
  • Try foam plates for extra sturdiness, especially if younger kids will be playing with the finished piece.
  • Create a whole Star Wars party craft table — set up stations for Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo plates so every guest can pick their favorite character.
  • Make mini versions on small snack plates for a cute garland or bulletin board display.

Once your Boba Fett helmet is complete, there are so many fun ways to put it to use. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Bedroom or playroom wall decor — hang it up alongside other Star Wars paper plate characters for an epic gallery wall.
  • May the 4th party decoration — display a row of different character helmets as part of your themed party setup.
  • Birthday party craft station — let guests make their own and take it home as a keepsake party favor.
  • Classroom activity — perfect for a Star Wars-themed unit, reading day, or just a fun end-of-week craft.
  • Halloween costume prop — make a large version with eye holes so kids can wear it as part of a bounty hunter costume.
  • Puppet or play prop — attach a craft stick to the back for storytelling and imaginative play.
  • Gift topper — attach a mini version to a wrapped gift for the Star Wars fan on your list.

Common Questions About This Craft ❓

What age is this craft good for?

This craft is a great fit for kids ages 3 and up. Younger toddlers will need help with tracing and cutting, but they can fully participate in painting and gluing. Kids 6 and older can handle most of the steps independently. It also works really well for mixed-age groups, like older siblings helping younger ones put it together.

Can I make this without the printable template?

Absolutely! You can freehand all the shapes if you’re comfortable with that. That said, the free template is sized specifically to fit a standard paper plate, so the pieces all line up neatly without any guesswork. It’s especially helpful if you’re making several at once for a party or class.

What type of paint works best on a paper plate?

Acrylic craft paint is the top choice here because it covers well, dries fast, and gives a nice solid color. Tempera paint is also a great option for younger kids since it washes off easily. Either way, skip the watercolor — it tends to soak into and warp the plate instead of sitting on top.

How long does this craft take?

From start to finish, plan for about 40 to 45 minutes. Active craft time is roughly 20 to 25 minutes, with the rest being paint drying time. You can speed that up with a hair dryer on low! After that, assembly goes pretty quickly.

Is this a good craft for a Star Wars party?

It’s one of the best! Pre-paint all the plates the night before so the party craft station is ready to go. Then set out the template pieces, glue, and construction paper and let the kids assemble their own helmets to take home. It’s a party activity and a party favor all wrapped into one — total mom win. 🎉
