If you have a little Star Wars fan at home, this one is going to make their day. This Princess Leia paper plate craft is fun, fast, and totally adorable. It uses simple supplies you probably already have on hand. Whether you’re crafting for May the Fourth, a birthday party, or just a random Thursday afternoon, this project is a winner.

What Is This Princess Leia Paper Plate Craft?
This is a simple, kid-friendly craft where you turn a plain paper plate into Princess Leia — iconic buns and all! It uses a free printable template, basic construction paper, and a few art supplies. The result is a cute face that any Star Wars fan will instantly recognize. Think of it as paper plate art meets galaxy far, far away. 🚀
You don’t need any fancy tools or craft experience for this one. It’s designed to be easy enough for little hands while still looking impressive when it’s done. Perfect for classroom craft time, themed parties, or a laid-back rainy day activity.

Why You’ll Love This Idea
First of all, this craft is budget-friendly. Paper plates, construction paper, and paint — you know, the stuff already living in your junk drawer or craft bin. No last-minute trips to the craft store needed. As a busy mom, I am always looking for ideas that don’t require detailed crafting or a full cart at Hobby Lobby.
Beyond the budget, this project is genuinely low-stress. Kids can take the lead with a little guidance, which means you get to sit back and sip your (probably cold) coffee. May the Fourth be with you, and also with your free Saturday afternoon. 😄 It doubles as a keepsake, a party decoration, or even a fun photo prop.

Why This Project Is Perfect for Crafting with Kids
Paper plate crafts for kids are great because they’re low-stakes and high-reward. Kids feel proud of their finished product without getting frustrated by complicated steps. This Princess Leia Organa version has just the right amount of cutting, gluing, and drawing to keep little ones engaged from start to finish.
Even toddlers and preschoolers can join in with some help on the cutting. Older kids in elementary school can handle most of the steps independently. The free printable template makes tracing and cutting easy, so there’s no need to freehand anything. You can also use this as a fun fine motor skills activity — all that cutting and gluing adds up! ✂️

There are so many ways to put this craft to work! Here are a few ideas from our house to yours:
- May the Fourth Be With You party decor: Line them up on a table or hang them from a string for a festive Star Wars Day display.

Fun Variations to Try
Not every craft has to be done by the book, you know? Here are a few ways to mix it up:
- Make it a Darth Vader instead! Swap the peach paint for gray and skip the buns — this template works great for a Star Wars character set.
- Turn it into a garland. Poke a hole in each finished plate and string them together with twine for a Star Wars party banner.
- Add a craft stick to the bottom. Now it’s a puppet! Kids can reenact the whole saga at the dinner table.
- Use foam plates instead of paper plates for a sturdier version that holds up longer.
- Let kids decorate with glitter glue on the buns for some extra sparkle. A princess deserves some shimmer, right?

Common Questions About This Craft
What age is this craft appropriate for?
This craft works well for kids ages 3/4 and up. Younger children will need help with cutting, but they can do the gluing and drawing. Older kids can handle most of the steps solo.
Do I need the printable template?
The free printable template makes everything so much easier, especially for the buns and hair shapes. You can freehand it, but the template saves time and makes the pieces look consistent. Grab it, print it, done.
Can I use this for a Star Wars birthday party?
Absolutely! Set up a simple craft table with pre-cut pieces and let the kids assemble their own. It’s an easy Star Wars birthday party activity that keeps little hands busy and gives everyone a takeaway. Total win.
What paint works best on paper plates?
Tempera paint or acrylic craft paint both work great. Just make sure you let it dry fully before gluing on the paper pieces. Otherwise things get a little slidey. Ask me how I know. 😂
