Free Baby Yoda Pumpkin Carving Stencil Printable

A Galaxy Far, Far Away (Right On Your Front Porch). Okay, you know how every October you plan to carve something creative and end up freehanding a lopsided pumpkin at 9 pm? Same. That’s exactly why I made this Baby Yoda Pumpkin Carving Stencil. It’s free, it’s printable, and it turns your porch into the cutest corner of the galaxy in one easy evening.

If you’ve got Star Wars fans in your house like I do, this one is going to be a big deal at your house this year. Grab the download below and let’s carve something everyone will love.

What Is This Printable, Exactly?

This free printable stencil is a black and white outline of the internet’s favorite little green guy, sitting snug in his floating pod. You print it out, tape it to a real pumpkin (or a faux one, more on that below), and trace or poke the lines to transfer the design. It’s simple enough for pumpkin-carving beginners of any age to pull off.

It’s one of the simplest pumpkin patterns out there, not a full-blown art project. No drawing skills needed here, and no Pinterest-fail energy either. Just print, stick, and carve.

Why You’ll Love This Idea

Here’s the best part: it takes the guesswork out of pumpkin carving night. You know how carving usually turns into someone standing over the pumpkin for twenty minutes trying to decide what to do? This printable skips that whole step. The design is already done, so you can jump straight to the fun part.

It’s also just a great way to bring a little extra joy to a busy season. Between school, sports, and everything else going on, sometimes you need a craft that’s low effort but high impact. Your kids will think you’re the coolest parent on the block, and honestly, you hardly had to do anything.

How to Use Your Baby Yoda Pumpkin Carving Stencil

First, print the stencil at full size on regular paper. Next, cut around the outer edge so it’s easier to work with. Then, tape it snugly onto your pumpkin, making sure there aren’t any wrinkles or gaps. And for more on how to get the perfect carved pumpkin, read my pumpkin carving guide.

After that, use a ballpoint pen to poke small holes along every line of the pattern. This transfers the design onto the pumpkin without you having to freehand a single curve. Once the outline is poked all the way through, peel off the paper and you’ll see your Baby Yoda pumpkin stencil ready to go.

Finally, grab your pumpkin carving tools and carve along the dotted outline. Go slowly around the ears, since those thin curves are the trickiest part. Adult supervision is a must here, especially with sharp objects and littler carvers helping out. Once you’re done, step back and admire your own baby Yoda pumpkin sitting pretty on the porch.

Best Tools for Carving Pumpkins

To achieve the best results in pumpkin carving, it’s essential to have the right tools to go along with our additional tips. Here are some must-have items for your pumpkin carving toolkit:

Best Knives for Pumpkin Carving (a Pumpkin Carving Kit):

These kits typically include a variety of tools such as serrated saws, scoops, and etching tools. They are specifically designed for pumpkin carving, making them safer and more effective than regular kitchen knives.

Serrated Knife:

A small, serrated sharp knife is perfect for cutting through the tough skin of the pumpkin. Ensure it’s sharp to make clean cuts and precise shapes.

Scoop or Spoon:

A sturdy scoop, ice cream scoop, or large spoon helps in removing the seeds and pulp from inside of the pumpkin. Look for one with a comfortable handle and a sharp edge for scraping the sides clean.

Scooping Glove:

This is a cool tool to clean out pumpkin guts without having to actually touch them with your hands! My least favorite part of carving pumpkins. With this glove you can easily scrap out the insides of a pumpkin.

Punch Tools:

These are used to mark your design onto the pumpkin before carving. You can use a simple pushpin or buy specialized tools that come with carving kits. I’ve even used a ball point pen in a pinch. All you need is to be able to make a small hole as a guide for your knife.

Small Paring Knife:

For intricate details and fine lines, a small paring knife or an X-Acto knife is ideal. It allows for more control when carving delicate features.

Drill with Bits:

For more advanced designs, a drill with different-sized bits can help create perfect circles and unique textures on your pumpkin. A drill can also be handy for cleaning out the inside of a pumpkin. attach a electric hand mixer beater to the drill and use it to scrap the insides clean.

Tea Lights

After you carve the best pumpkin, you will want to light it up. Instead of lighting a candle inside consider a battery operated tea light for a pumpkin light. You can even find ones that flicker for the traditional candle effect.

Dry Erase Marker or Sharpie:

After punching holes you can use a marker to connect dots to ensure precise cuts to your pumpkin stencils.

Fun Ideas For Using This Stencil

You don’t have to stop at one carved pumpkin. There are so many fun ideas out there once you have the design in hand. Here are a few of my favorites to make this printable go even further:

  • Carve it into a real pumpkin for your front porch, and light it up at night for the full glow-up effect.
  • Trace it onto a fake pumpkin with a marker instead of carving, which is a great option if you want your Star Wars Halloween pumpkins to last all season.
  • Use black paint and white paint to paint the design instead of carving; no sharp objects required.
  • Trace the stencil onto construction paper and cut it out for a quick classroom or window decoration.
  • Turn it into a fun family competition and see who can carve the cleanest lines.

Variations To Try

Once you’ve mastered the baby Yoda pumpkin craft, you might want to round out your porch with the rest of the crew. A better way to go all-in on the theme is to grab pumpkin stencils for other favorite characters too, like The Mandalorian. Mix and match for a porch that looks like a galaxy far, far away.

If green paint feels more your speed than carving, that works too. Paint the design straight onto small craft pumpkins from the dollar tree for an easy no-mess project the kids can do on their own. Line a few of these baby Yoda designs along your porch railing for a display that looks like way more effort than it was.

Common Questions

What size pumpkin works best for this stencil?
The best pumpkin for this design is medium to large, since it gives you room for the Grogu ears and pod details. It also scales down for small craft pumpkins in a pinch.

Do I need special pumpkin carving tools?
Nope! A basic carving kit works fine. A thin paring knife helps with the curved ears. That’s the trickiest part of the pattern.

Can I use this on a fake pumpkin?
Absolutely. Fake pumpkins are actually a perfect pumpkin option if you want your design to last well past Halloween night, since you can trace or paint instead of carve.

What do I do with the pumpkin guts?
Save them! Roasted pumpkin seeds are an easy snack, and the rest can go straight into the compost bin if you have one.

Is this printable free?
Yes, completely free. Just grab the download and print as many copies as you need.
