Next, pick the right pumpkin for your design. A medium to large pumpkin with a flat front works best for showing off the flag clearly. Tape the printable template onto the clean, dry pumpkin, then use a poking tool or toothpick to trace along the dotted line, leaving little holes in the skin.

Once the tracing is done, remove the paper and carve along those dotted holes using the right tools, like a small serrated knife from your carving kit.
