What Is This Free Printable?

This printable is a free stencil design of Chase from Paw Patrol, ready to print and use right away. You simply download the digital files, print the template, tape it onto your pumpkin, and trace the lines. From there, you carve along the pattern until Chase’s face glows on your porch for all the trick-or-treaters to see.

No need to freehand a design or stress about pumpkin patterns that never quite turn out right. This free stencil does the hard part for you, no matter your skill levels. Even if you don’t consider yourself to have good artistic skills, you can still pull off adorable pumpkins worthy of your front porch. It’s honestly one of my favorite printable templates to share every fall.

Why You’ll Love This Idea

First off, this is one of those pumpkin carving idea posts that saves you serious time. Instead of scrolling for an hour trying to find the right pumpkin designs, you already have a great option ready to go. Just print, trace, and carve. That means more time enjoying the harvest season with your family instead of stressing over Pinterest boards full of halloween pumpkins.

Also, this stencil is perfect for younger kids who love their favorite character showing up somewhere unexpected. They light up every time they see Chase on their very own pumpkin. It turns a simple craft into a fun way to make halloween memories they’ll want to repeat every year. Plus, it’s completely free, so there’s no reason not to give it a try this weekend.

How to Use the Chase Paw Patrol Pumpkin Stencil Printable

Using this printable is simple, even if this is your first time working with printable stencils. To download head to the end of the post and enter your name and email address in the dark green download box. An email will be sent to your inbox with a download link to the PDF file. Start by printing the template at full size on regular paper, then cut around the outer edge so you have a clean pattern to work with.

Next, choose your selected pumpkin and clean out the excess pulp with a large spoon, scraping down to a firm surface so the walls carve evenly. Tape the paper stencil onto the pumpkin, then poke a small hole along every line of the desired sketch. Once you peel off the paper, those dots become your carving guide. I also have a more in-depth how-to carve a pumpkin guide here.

Grab a carving knife and follow the dots, cutting slowly along the straight lines and any sharp corner or tapered cut. Try a different angle if a section feels tricky, and use a special scraper to clean up the inside of the pumpkin for best results. Finally, remove the cut cap at the top of the pumpkin, add a small candle or small flashlight inside, and watch that pumpkin glow. That’s the final stage, and it’s always my favorite part!

Best Tools for Carving Pumpkins

To achieve the best results in pumpkin carving, it’s essential to have the right tools to go along with our additional tips. Here are some must-have items for your pumpkin carving toolkit:

Best Knives for Pumpkin Carving (a Pumpkin Carving Kit):

These kits typically include a variety of tools such as serrated saws, scoops, and etching tools. They are specifically designed for pumpkin carving, making them safer and more effective than regular kitchen knives.

Serrated Knife:

A small, serrated sharp knife is perfect for cutting through the tough skin of the pumpkin. Ensure it’s sharp to make clean cuts and precise shapes.

Scoop or Spoon:

A sturdy scoop, ice cream scoop, or large spoon helps in removing the seeds and pulp from inside of the pumpkin. Look for one with a comfortable handle and a sharp edge for scraping the sides clean.

Scooping Glove:

This is a cool tool to clean out pumpkin guts without having to actually touch them with your hands! My least favorite part of carving pumpkins. With this glove you can easily scrap out the insides of a pumpkin.

Punch Tools:

These are used to mark your design onto the pumpkin before carving. You can use a simple pushpin or buy specialized tools that come with carving kits. I’ve even used a ball point pen in a pinch. All you need is to be able to make a small hole as a guide for your knife.

Small Paring Knife:

For intricate details and fine lines, a small paring knife or an X-Acto knife is ideal. It allows for more control when carving delicate features.

Drill with Bits:

For more advanced designs, a drill with different-sized bits can help create perfect circles and unique textures on your pumpkin. A drill can also be handy for cleaning out the inside of a pumpkin. attach a electric hand mixer beater to the drill and use it to scrap the insides clean.

Tea Lights

After you carve the best pumpkin, you will want to light it up. Instead of lighting a candle inside consider a battery operated tea light for a pumpkin light. You can even find ones that flicker for the traditional candle effect.

Dry Erase Marker or Sharpie:

After punching holes you can use a marker to connect dots to ensure precise cuts to your pumpkin stencils.

Fun Ways to Use the Printable

There are so many ways to enjoy this stencil beyond carving. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Use it as a coloring page alongside your child’s favorite paw patrol coloring pages
  • Turn it into a stencil for painting an orange pumpkin instead of carving one
  • Save it as one of your favorite creative resources for a classroom party or a trip to the pumpkin patch

Variations for Using This Printable

If carving isn’t your thing this year, there are plenty of variations that still bring the fun. You can paint the design onto your pumpkin instead of cutting it, which is a great option for younger kids who aren’t ready for sharp tools yet, or pair it with other free pumpkin carving templates from around the site.

Another idea is to skip the pumpkin altogether. Trace the stencil onto felt or foam board for a reusable decoration on your front porch year after year, or print a few smaller versions so each family member can carve their own mini design, perfect for the timing of the wonderful autumn holidays. Set it beside a lantern of your choice for an extra glow, and you’ll have some amazing festival pumpkins on display. Compared to traditional spooky faces or plain spooky cut pumpkins, a themed design like this feels more fun for the whole family.

Common Questions

Is this stencil free to use? Yes! This printable is completely free for personal use. Please don’t sell or redistribute the digital file itself, though.

What supplies do I need? You’ll need a printer, tape, a small poking tool, and a pumpkin carving kit or basic knife. A glass cup of water nearby for rinsing tools comes in handy too. Plus, check out my full list of helpful supplies to keep on hand above!

What size pumpkin works best? A medium-to-large, ripe fruit gives you the most room to work with the pattern once it’s lit.

Can I use this on a real or a fake pumpkin? Either works! If you want a great pumpkin decoration that lasts all season, try it on a foam pumpkin instead of a real one.
