How to Make a Snowman Suncatcher Craft: Printable Template
Make a snowman suncatcher kid craft with a free printable template. This easy winter tissue paper craft keeps kids busy and creates cute window art. Fast fun!

Winter crafts are my love language, especially the kind that feel cozy and cheerful without a lot of prep. When the days are cold and the kids are stuck inside, I’m always looking for something simple that still feels special. This project checks all the boxes. It’s colorful, easy, and looks adorable hanging in a sunny window. You know, the kind of craft that makes winter feel a little less long and a little more fun.
If you’re a parent trying to keep kids busy while making everyday moments feel festive, you’re going to love this idea.

What this Craft is All About
This craft is a stained-glass-style winter project made with tissue paper and contact paper. Kids place colorful tissue paper squares onto a snowman shape, creating a bright design that glows when the light shines through. The finished piece sticks right onto a window and instantly adds winter cheer.
It works well for preschoolers and elementary-aged kids, and it doesn’t require perfection to look good. That’s honestly my favorite kind of craft because everyone ends up proud of their creation.

Why You’ll Love This Winter Craft
First, this project is very low prep, which is always a win during busy weeks. You print the template, cut a few pieces, and then let the kids take over. That means you can stay close without hovering, or maybe even enjoy a minute to yourself.
Second, it’s a forgiving craft that doesn’t stress anyone out. Tissue paper hides little mistakes, and there’s no wrong way to place the pieces. Every finished design looks colorful and fun, even if the glue gets a little generous along the way.

Why this Project is Great for the Winter Season
Winter days can feel long, especially when outdoor playtime is limited and everyone starts getting restless. This craft brings color into those gray afternoons and gives kids something creative to focus on indoors.
It also brightens up your home when sunlight finally peeks through the clouds. Hanging these in the window adds a cozy seasonal touch without needing to decorate an entire room, which makes it perfect for busy moms who still want a little winter magic. You can even pair it with the snowman suncatcher or heart suncatcher for more fun!

How to Make a Snowman Suncatcher
Before you start, gather all your supplies so everything is ready to go. This project uses simple materials that are easy to find and budget-friendly.
- Begin by downloading and printing the snowman template. You’ll enter your email address in the dark green download box at the end of the post to access it.
- Once printed, cut out each piece of the template using the correct colored paper. Use white paper for the body, orange for the nose, black for the hat, and brown for the arms.
- Next, cut tissue paper into small squares. They don’t need to be even, and kids can help with this step.
- Attach contact paper to the back of the snowman’s body and peel off the backing so the sticky side is facing up.
- Now let the kids place tissue paper squares onto the sticky surface until the entire shape is covered. Overlapping is completely fine and often makes the colors look even better.
- Once finished, Layer on another layer or contact paper and tape if you like. Trim off any excess contact paper.
- Flip the snowman over and glue the arms, nose, and hat onto the front. Let it dry before displaying.

Fun Variations to Try
There are so many easy ways to change this craft up while using the same basic steps. Try sticking to cool colors like blues and purples for a frosty winter look, or let kids use every color for a bright rainbow design.
You can also add googly eyes or draw on extra details once the glue dries. Making smaller versions looks adorable too, especially when several are grouped together on one window.

How to Use this Craft at Home or School
This project works beautifully as winter window decor at home, but it’s also great for classrooms and daycare settings. Teachers often use it for fine motor practice, and parents love it for calm afternoon activities.
It pairs well with winter books, snowman stories, or a seasonal unit study. You can also line several finished pieces along a classroom window or hallway for an easy seasonal display.

Is laminating needed?
No, the contact paper holds everything together and keeps it sturdy. Most families finish the project in about 20 to 30 minutes, making it perfect for short attention spans.
