My mom was making this really cute mini scrapbook for my little sister’s new baby when I had a great idea. My niece is getting to the age where she needs a little something to keep her busy at church or during quiet times. I thought the mini book my mom was using would make a great chalkboard activity book. Here is a little tutorial:
- Chipboard book with rings (I got mine at Michael’s)
- Chalkboard paint
- Scrapbook paper
- Hole punch
- Tape runner or glue stick
Start by painting each piece of the chipboard book with chalkboard paint.
Don’t forget to paint the edges!
Let dry, it doesn’t take to long but give it a good couple of hours before putting the book together because some places on the pages may stick.
Pick a background paper for the cover(s).
Trace around the page and cut out.
Line up the cut out page and mark with a pencil on the back of your paper where the holes need to be. Use a hole punch to punch out the holes.
After I cut it out I used an X-acto knife to get the edges nice.
I then just used a tape runner to apply the paper to the page. Glue stick would probably work just fine too. I only did the front cover, but a back cover could be done too.
Lastly, embellish the cover and make it look stinking cute. I used sticker letters and cut out other scrapbook paper. I applied it using the tape runner.
Add ribbons or other cute scraps to the rings for a fun touch.
Presto! You have a nice chalkboard book for church, quiet times or just for fun.
