DIY Painted Vintage Bottle

My mom has been cleaning out her house and has found some great stuff, like these adorable blueish vintage bottles. I wanted to spice them up with some gold metallic paint. Here is what I came up with!
You will need:
- vintage bottle
- painters tape
- metallic paint (I used Martha Stewart Craft paint in Gold)
- sponge paint brush
- Baker’s Twine (I got mine from Pick Your Plum)

I used the painters tape to create stripes going smaller to larger. Tape off all the stripes and paint your first coat lightly. Let it dry for a good hour and paint a second coat. Make sure the paint is completely dry. Repeat until the coverage is to your likeness.

Top the bottle off with a baker’s twine bow and some long stemmed flowers.

Painting on the glass can be tricky, that is why it is important to do a light coat each time and let it dry. If it isn’t completely dry then the paint will wipe right off.

I love the blue glass mixed with the metallic gold stripes. It brings a modern flair to a simple vintage bottle.

These vintage bottles work great as a vase for tall flowers. It would make a great centerpiece this spring.

What would you do with a bunch of vintage bottles?
Cute maybe I want it back now- haha!
This is so cute! I might try this with some wine bottles I have.
Emily, that’s cute! I like it.
Also try milky – watery white paint. That was fun here: http://www.finecraftguild.com/recycled-bottle-vase/ Looked so much better than the pictures. That was when I still held the camera upside down… Anyhow, it’s not too bad. It is pretty! And since I know you have a couple more bottles from mom’s house…, I thought to show you.
Your bottle is very stylish.
What a simple and fun idea for a homemade vase! I love it!
Hi Emily,
You just gave me an idea on what should I do with my un-use bottles here. I also love love the gold paint.
