Get organized with vintage style! Try back to school crate organization for kids’ supplies—personalized, practical, and perfect for a stylish start to the year.
I love Back to School!!! I’m always trying to find ways to organize all my newly purchased school supplies. My mom recently found these adorable vintage crates at a garage sale for quarter! Check out what I did with mine to help organize for back to school.

Back to school is one of my favorite times! I love school supplies and the fall. It’s a fun time of year. Back to school (whether you have kids going back to school or not) is a fun time to decorate, organize and prepare for the fall. I want to be more organized this fall and I came up with this fun DIY back to school crate organization idea.

My mom found these amazing vintage crates at a garage sale for a quarter! She bought a bunch up. I gladly took a few off her hands. I loved the natural vintage look, but I thought I could spruce them up with some paint and back to school glitz.

To whip up this cute back to school crate you will need:
- Crates (if you can’t find any at garage sales, thrift stores, etc. then you can purchase new ones at craft stores and make them look vintage with these tips)
- Craft paint
- Foam paint brush
- Permanent marker
How to Customize Your Crate
Here is how I made the crate my own with paint and a Sharpie marker.

Start by painting the side slats of the crate whatever color you like. Reds, yellows, navy blues all scream back to school to me. Or customize them for your children with their favorite colors. If you want a different look paint only a couple slats in a pattern.

Then add custom writing with a marker. I wanted a little abc love on mine, but add a child’s name or any other phrase. I free handed my letters, but feel free to use a pencil to create a pattern to follow on the wood.

Mine ended up looking like this! I love it the pop of red is lots of fun.

Using the Crate for Organization
Fill up the crate with school supplies, homework, shoes, odds and ends, etc. Find a place to keep your gorgeous crates. Let the kids know that they are responsible for their crate. Throw in random stuff for the kids to put away.

Instead of using these crates for organization, use them as a porch decoration or around the house.
