How to Make Tree Tassel Ornaments

A quick and easy DIY for the Christmas season. Hang these ornaments on a tree or set them up on display on the mantel or around the home.

Equipment

  • scissors
  • ruler

Materials

  • 2 mini cutting boards hobby lobby has a lot on fall clearance
  • 2 colors of yarn sage & cream
  • Hot glue/hot glue gun

Instructions

Large Tree

  • Measure and cut 5 strands of yarn about 4-5” long.
  • Fold the 5 stands in half grouped together.
  • Cut another yarn strand about 12” long and tie the top of the strings together to make a small loop. Wrap the ends around the loop and tie off.

  • Repeat steps 1-3 to make 6 tassels.
  • Lay out the tassels on a small cutting board, 3 on the bottom row, 2 in the center row, and 1 on the top row.
  • Once your tassels are positioned in the correct spot, use a hot glue gun to glue the third row of the tied side of the tassels onto the cutting board.

  • Glue the second row of tassels onto the cutting board, slightly overlapping the third row.
  • Now glue the final tassel on the top, slightly overlapping row two.

Small tree

  • Measure and cut 5 strands of yarn about 3-4” long.

  • Fold the 5 stands in half grouped together.
  • Cut another yarn strand about 12” long and tie the top of the strings together to make a small loop, wrapping the ends around the loop and tie off.

  • Repeat steps 1-3 to make 3 tassels.

  • Lay out the tassels on a small cutting board, 2 on the bottom row, and 1 on the top row.

  • Once your tassels are positioned in the correct spot, use a hot glue gun to glue the second row of the tied side of the tassels onto the cutting board.
  • Now glue the final tassel on the top, slightly overlapping row two.
