Supplies you Need
- 3″ x 16″ x 1/16″ thick balsa wood strip (from the craft store)
- Rubber stamps
- Ink pads (any color you love)
- Craft knife or paper cutter
- Ribbon, trim, or baker’s twine

How to Make Wood Bookmarks
Cut the wood: Use a paper cutter or craft knife to cut the wood strip to 6″ x 3″, then cut it in half to make two 6″ x 1.5″ bookmarks.

Smooth the edges: Gently run the craft knife along the cut edge or use sandpaper to smooth it.

Paint (optional): For a white wash, mix 4 parts paint with 1 part water. Brush on the wood and let it dry completely.

Stamp it up! Place the bookmark on a hard surface and stamp designs, monograms, or patterns using your ink pads.

Punch a hole: Use a hole punch at the top of the bookmark.
Add ribbon: Tie ribbon, trim, or twine through the hole. That’s it—your bookmark is ready to use or gift! 🎁

I created a few different styles and I love how each of them turned out. The natural wood look reminds me of summer, camping and nature. These bookmarks would even be the perfect summer camp craft. Crafts are a great way to keep everyone busy on camping trips.
The balsa wood was perfect for bookmarks. It is thick and sturdier than a paper bookmark, yet it is flexible and holds a page perfectly.

Tutorial for Hand Stamped Wood Bookmarks
Materials
- 3 ” x 16″ x 1/16″ thick Balsa Wood strip I found mine at Michael’s in the wood aisle, the length
- rubber stamps
- ink pads
- craft knife
- paper cutter
- ribbons trim or baker’s twine
- hole punch
- optional: white paint or any other colors
Instructions
- Get started by cutting the wood to the size of the bookmarks using a paper cutter (or a saw or craft knife). Run the blade over the cut a couple of times. Cut a strip to 6″ x 3″ and then cut it in half to create two 6″ x 1.5″ bookmarks.
- Using the craft knife run it over the cut edge to smooth it out. Sanding it with sand paper would work too.
- I painted some of the bookmarks with a white wash. To whitewash mix 4 parts paint with one part water. Paint bookmarks and let dry before stamping. I love the look of the natural balsa wood and the white washed wood too.
- Stamp monograms, patterns and arrows (or whatever fits your personality). When stamping place a bookmark on solid hard surface and then stamp. Mix up colors and patterns for a fun summer vibe.
- Add ribbon or trim to the tops by using a hole punch to create a hole at the top. Tie the twine, trim and ribbons through the hole and the hand stamped wooden bookmarks are finished.
