DIY Candy Corn Pillows Tutorial for Fall Decor
Create DIY Candy Corn Pillows for fall and Halloween decor. Easy, budget-friendly, kid-approved craft to brighten your home with festive charm.

Hello friend! 🍁 Let’s talk fall decorating. I don’t know about you, but once September hits, I’m ready to break out the cozy blankets, pumpkins, and all things candy corn. And today, I’ve got the cutest craft for you—DIY Candy Corn Pillows.
They’re soft, squishy, and add instant Halloween charm to your home. Plus, they look store-bought but are super easy to make. Win-win.
What Are Candy Corn Pillows?
Candy corn pillows are just what they sound like—pillows painted or sewn to look like candy corn. Bright white, bold orange, and sunny yellow. They’re the perfect mix of festive and fun.
These pillows work indoors or outdoors. Toss them on the couch. Line them on your porch bench. Snuggle them during a spooky movie night. They’re the definition of simple seasonal joy. 🎃
Why You’ll Love This Idea
First, they’re affordable. You don’t need fancy supplies or sewing magic to make these pillows. A little paint, some fabric, and stuffing are all it takes. You can even use pillow covers you already have on hand. Talk about budget-friendly decorating.
Second, they’re versatile. Want a giant pillow to sit in a reading nook? Go for it. Prefer a small accent pillow for your entryway chair? Easy. You can customize the size and shades to match your style. And trust me—guests will ask where you bought them. That’s always the best compliment, right?
Why This Project Is Great for Kids
Kids love helping with crafts, especially when it involves paint. This project is perfect for little hands because the design is simple. Straight lines. Three colors. Done.
It’s also a fun way to spend an afternoon together. You know those weekends when everyone’s restless? Break out some canvas, paint, and brushes. Your kids will feel proud seeing their creations on display, and you’ll have seasonal decor with sweet memories attached.

How to Make Candy Corn Pillows
Here’s the step-by-step:
Supplies:
- Two white canvas squares (12×12 or your choice, cotton will work for indoors, canvas for outdoors)
- Painters tape
- Yellow + orange acrylic craft paint
- Foam brush
- Sewing machine (or fabric glue for no-sew)
- Needle + thread
- Pillow stuffing
- Fabric seal spray (optional, for outdoor use)
Shop all of the items I used to make this project by clicking the images below and using the arrows on either side to look through all of the items:

Instructions:
- Divide the canvas. Tape it into three sections. Bottom = yellow, middle = orange, top = white.
- Paint. Start with yellow at the bottom, let dry, then add orange in the middle. Remove tape carefully.
- Sew (or glue). Place your painted piece and the plain square together, inside out. Sew around edges, leaving an opening.
- Turn right side out. Use a dowel to push out corners.
- Stuff. Fill with pillow stuffing until plump.
- Close it up. Use a whip stitch or glue to seal the opening. Here is a video of the whip stitch. If you’ve never used one before. It is pretty easy. Or just go over this spot with your machine again.
- Protect. Spray with fabric sealant if you plan to keep them outdoors.
Done! You now have the cutest seasonal pillow for fall.

How to Use This Craft
Wondering where to show off your candy corn pillows? Here are a few ideas:
- Front porch bench with pumpkins and a fall wreath.
- Living room couch paired with plaid blankets.
- Kids’ rooms for a festive touch.
- Halloween party decor—guests will love the cozy vibe.
- Photo props for your fall family pictures.

Variations for This Craft
You don’t have to stick to the traditional square pillow. Try:
- Triangle pillows shaped like actual candy corn pieces.
- Mini versions for tiered trays or shelf decor.
- No-sew pillows using fabric glue instead of a sewing machine.
- Patterned fabric for a quirky twist. Imagine candy corn stripes with polka dots!
You can also play with texture. Felt, flannel, or even fleece would all work. Basically, if it’s soft and paintable (or sewable), it’s fair game.

Common Questions About Candy Corn Pillows
Can I wash them?
If you use fabric paint and seal them, yes. Just spot-clean gently.
Do I have to sew?
Nope! You can glue the edges with fabric glue or use iron-on adhesive if sewing isn’t your thing.
What size works best?
Anything goes! Try 12×12 for a standard size or jumbo for porch decor.
How long does it take?
One afternoon, tops. Most of the time is just letting the paint dry.
