As a new parent, it can be hard to know what to do when baby is fussy and crying. It gets better I promise, but at first it is hard to know what will help soothe a fussy baby. Here are a few ways to to soothe a fussy baby. Try out a few and see which ones work best for your little one.

Swaddle
Especially when little, babies love to be swaddled. I had a hard time getting the blankets to swaddle just right, so I used a simple velcro swaddle. They made it so much easier for me to be able to get Miss JJ swaddled up nice and comfy in a hurry.
Baby Carrier
Again, Miss JJ loved to be close to me and I can’t tell you how much I’ve loved her baby carrier. A sling or other carrier works perfect to keep your arms free and allow baby the comfort of your nearness. There are so many different carriers, so find the one that works for you and your little one. Ask a friend if you can try out theirs before buying to make sure sizing and fit work properly.
White Noise
I didn’t know much about white noise, until the Mr. went to visit his friend for a weekend when their baby was quite new. He told me that the white noise worked like magic. When they wanted the baby to go to sleep they simply turned on the white noise and baby was out like a light. While, this might not be the exact case with all babies, it does soothe many. Surprisingly babies like noise. Plus, it can remind them of the womb. Use a heartbeat sound, ocean or just plain white noise. Find out what works best for your baby. When she was just little she loved the heartbeat. Download an app on your phone, play some off of YouTube or purchase a white noise machine or CD.
Change of Scenery
Take baby outside if the weather is nice. Sometimes a bit of fresh air will calm and soothe a cranky babe. Plus, there is so much to experience outside. New sights, sounds and smells. Or maybe have a someone else watch baby for a few minutes. Ask a trusted family member or friend to spend some time with the baby so you can both have a change of scenery.
Music and Bouncing
Put on a little music and bounce baby. The new sounds and movements can be soothing and provide an opportunity to burn some calories. Try out swaying, bouncing or other dance movements.
