Washi Tape Book Page Banner

I just got a bundle of Christmas washi tape from Pick Your Plum recently. I have been itching to create something fun for Christmas with it. I wanted to get a little artsy without pulling out the paint and making a big mess. This washi tap book page banner was the perfect solution.

With Thanksgiving coming so late this year, I have felt behind. I didn’t even get out all my Christmas decorations. So I wanted to create something a little new and different to spice up my home.

What you will need:

  • book pages (from an old book or one from a thrift store)
  • ink pad (I used black, but brown would work too)
  • washi tape

Start by ripping out however many book pages you want for your banner. I tore them down the spine as close as possible. Then cut off the jagged torn edge.

With the book pages all cleaned up, Take a stamp pad and run it lightly over the edges of the page and some more toward the middle. Do as little or as much as you want. Repeat with all the book pages.

I made five different designs with the washi tape. A snowflake, ornament, star, tree and candy cane. They were all easy. For the candy cane and the ornament, I just squished the tape into a curve. For all but the start, I created the outline and then filled in with straight pieces of tape.

The snowflake was the easiest to create. It could be more complex if smaller little pieces were added around the ends.

The ornament is a ball and add a small piece of tape on the top for the top of the ornament bulb.

I created a four pointed star. The top three points are small and the bottom point extends down further.

The tree is a triangle with a small piece of tape for a stump.

Lastly, the candy can is one long straight piece and a couple of pieces on the top for a curved look.

I attached my book pages to twine with tape and strung them up. They look so festive! I love that it looks like the banner is telling a story.

I want to say the tree is my favorite, but then I look at the others and love them too. It would be fun to do all the same object on each book page but make the objects a different color. The ornaments would be great to do this way.
