Valentine’s Mailbox {Recycling a Pringles Can}

CoverSo a month or so ago, the Mr. asked if I wanted him to throw away a Pringles can or if I wanted to do something crafty with it. You know I was up for the challenge. Don’t mistake me for being in any way political here, but I think I myself and I am sure others could benefit from reusing and recycling more things. Like recycling a pringles can to make something better out of it. It sat in my craft room for a while. Every now and then I would glance at it. It hit me like a brick! Wouldn’t this be a cute Valentine’s mailbox. I love that it is a funky fun shape and so fun with the red and white. Read more to see how I transformed the Pringles can to this fab valentine’s mailbox.

final2Here’s what I used:

  • Pringles can
  • paint
  • washi tape
  • embellishing ribbons
  • hot glue gun & glue
  • tag

Step 1: Paint your can white and then cover it with washi tape until completely covered.

Step 2: Embellish with ribbons and tag.

EmbellishingTo apply the ribbons I used hot glue or just tied on the ribbons.

Final1Step 3: Cut slit in lid and embellish lid.

Lid I traced my  slip with by cutting out a rectangle of cardstock and outlining it with a small tipped sharpie.XactoKnife

Then use and knife to cut out the rectangle. If you don’t have a knife you could use scissors but it would be harder. AlcoholMy tip for removing the excess sharpie lines when you are finished: Rubbing alcohol. Just dab a little on a q-tip and rub off the sharpie excess.
Lid EmbellishingTo embellish the lid I put some ribbon around the delivery slot. Finished it off by adding ric rac around the edge of the lid (using hot glue to keep it in place).

Yay top the can and you can start petitioning for valentines. I might put mine near the Mr.’s nightstand so that he will get the hint. Yay for a Valentine’s Mailbox {Recycling a Pringles Can}.
