Day Three: 12 Days of Christmas Stories {A Christmas Carol & a Heart}

Today I want to share some excerpts from Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol.” This is always a holiday favorite to me. Especially when I watch it with the Muppets. These are some of my favorite quotes from the book: (Download the pdf version here: A Christmas Carol. You might have to click it and then click it again on the second page)

“I will honour  Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the past, the present and the future. The spirits of all three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.”

“External heat and cold had little influence on Scrooge. No warmth could warm, no wintry weather chill him. No wind that blew was bitterer than he, no falling snow was more intent upon its purpose, no pelting rain less open to entreaty.”

“And it was a very uncommon kind of torch, for once or twice when there were angry words between some dinner-carriers who had jostled each other, he shed a few drops of water on them from it, and their good humour was restored directly. For they said, it was a shame to quarrel upon Christmas Day. And so it was! God love it, so it was!”

“Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead,” said Scrooge. “But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change. Say it is thus with what you show me!”

“It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humour.”

“Ghost of the Future,” he exclaimed, “I fear you more than any spectre I have seen. But as I know your purpose is to do me good, and as I hope to live to be another man from what I was, I am prepared to bear you company, and do it with a thankful heart. Will you not speak to me?”

“It’s Christmas Day!” said Scrooge to himself. “I haven’t missed it. The Spirits have done it all in one night. They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can.”

The craft today comes from the first quote. I kind of want it to be Christmas longer during the year, but then there would be no spring or summer and all that fun in the sun stuff, but by remember Christmas in my heart then I can still remember the feeling of the season and have fun in the sun which is awesome.

You will need:

  • wooden heart
  • paint
  • washi tape
  • twine
  • Mod Podge
  • paper quote

First, paint your heart. I went fairly traditional using red. I gave it two coats. Let them dry completely.

After the heart is dry embellish the heart with washi tape. Print out the quote you want to put on your heart.

I antiqued the paper with the quote on it using an ink pad. After it was ready, I used Mod Podge to attach the quote to the heart. I also used the Mod Podge on the washi tape to help it have the matte look of the Mod Podge over the whole heart. Once the Mod Podge dries finish embellishing with twine and any other details you’d like to add.

What is your favorite part of “A Christmas Carol”?
